Well not really, but the man who created and voiced these iconic characters was. Frank Oz was born in Hereford in 1944, and after moving to the States at five he went on to become an incredibly successful puppeteer and director.
2. Hereford is home to one of the most important maps in the world.
The Mappa Mundi, one of the only surviving medieval maps of the world, can be found today in Hereford Cathedral. Created in the late 13th century, this map shows Jerusalem to be at the centre of the earth, as was the belief of the church at the time.
3. Hereford babies were baptised with cider.
You already know that Hereford is famous for its cider production, but did you know babies were baptised with cider in the 14th century? At the time, cider was used instead of water because it was cleaner!
4. Hereford United set a record for the number of players sent off.
In 1992, Hereford United set a new Football League record when they had 4 players sent off in a match against Northampton Town. Even though they finished with 7 players on the pitch, they still managed a 1-1 draw!
5. Hereford is home to the world’s largest cider factory.
This title goes to the Bulmer’s factory – which is also famous for holding the largest vat too! The stainless steel tanks can hold up to 15 million gallons of cider.
